How We Rank Ad Servers: Our Methodology
Every ad server is scored from 1 to 10 on seven weighted criteria. The weighted average is the overall score, and the overall scores set the ranking order.
Scoring criteria
| Criterion | Weight | What we look at |
|---|---|---|
| Independence & neutrality | 15% | Is the ad server free of conflicts with an ad exchange or network that competes for the publisher's demand? Can the publisher choose any demand partner? |
| Ease of use & self-serve | 15% | How quickly can an ad ops team traffic a campaign? Is there a self-serve portal for advertisers? |
| Pricing transparency | 15% | Is pricing published or easy to obtain? Are costs predictable as volume grows? |
| API & integrations | 15% | Depth of the API, documentation quality, and integrations with CRMs, ESPs, analytics and header bidding. |
| Format & channel support | 15% | Display, native, video (VAST), email newsletter, app and sponsored listing support. |
| Support & onboarding | 15% | Access to real people, migration help, onboarding and training. |
| Commerce & retail media readiness | 10% | Ability to run sponsored products, onsite retail media and first-party data targeting. |

Ties
In category rankings, two platforms that serve that use case equally well share a rank and are marked "tie".
